The earliest known ancestors of Eilert Carlson are
Mattias Carlssen, born 1758, and his wife Ragnild Knutsdatter, born
1757. Ragnild died at age 48 in Djupvik, and Mattias died 1826 in Tranoy.
Mattias Carlssen and Ragnild had 5 children, the
eldest Knud. Carl was the second child, born 1789, but in the 1801
census, Carl was living as a foster child with the sognpræst (parish
priest) Tobias
Brodtkorb in Tranoy and was then 12 years old.
Carl was the father of Eilert Carlson, born 1812 in
Tranoy.
Eilert's mother was Karen Marie, daughter of Edias
Pedersen, born 1745, and Dorthea Reinholdtsdatter, born 1757 to
Reinholdt Knudsen and Benedicta Ericksdatter. Karen Marie was born 1781,
and was unmarried at the time of Eilert's birth. Both Carl and Karen
married other spouses and had children.
Edias died 1804, and Dorothea remarried Mattias
Carlssen, Eilert's grandfather. Dorthea died 1836 in Djupvik.
Eilert married Ronnog Olsdatter 23 September 1840 in
Maalselv.
Their first child Anne Karin Eilertsdatter was born 7
Nov 1841 in Lenvik, Troms, Norway. She Married Ole Mortenson 23 Jun
1860 in Djupvik. Ole was born 29 Feb 1838 in Osterdalen, Hedmark,
Norway, the child of Morten and Marit (Knudsdatter) Olsen.
Their second child was Lars, born 14 Dec 1843, and
then Carl, born 11 Aug 1846.
Information from a descendant of Paul Olsson, brother
of Ronnog:
"She told that Eilert Carlsen and Paul Olsson were
passing Djupvik on their way to Alta where they worked with slate, and
saw that there was some land for sale. They bought it in 1848 and moved
there with their families. Ronnog changed her name to Randi because they
couldn't pronounce it the way she was used to."

The house in the center of the picture was shared by Eilert
Carlson and Paul Olson. Part of the house was rented
out to the electric company. Eilert eventually removed to his
farm. The old house is, as of 2010, in possession of the family.

| Eilert's farm shown with the white bales, ran from the fjord to
the top of the fjell (mountain). On our trip to Norway in 2003,
we picnicked on the farm where Eilert's house sat. |

The first child born to Eilert and Ronnog was Anne Karin Eilertsdatter,

sold their portion of the farm in Norway and came to America,
settling on Eilert's homestead. In 1880 Ole bought the farm from
Eilert's heirs, Anne's siblings.
