In 1999 my sister Nancy and I took our first trip to Norway. Prior to leaving I had contacted the library in Olderdalen to see if they had any information on where Ronnog would have been buried. The librarian was able to give me some information, and as a close, she said, "By the way, did you know you still have a relative in Djupvik?" We were then determined to go to Djupvik, but I asked the librarian if she could arrange for someone to come with us to translate. In the meantime, our cousin Laila Paulson in Djupvik had contacted her cousin Solveig Korseberg in Oslo, asking for her help with these strangers coming from America.

When we checked into the hotel in Tromso, there was a message for us asking us to call two people we  had never heard of. This turned out to be cousins Solveig Korseberg and Kirstin Gaare, who picked us up and brought us to the home of Kirstin and her husband Steinar Hansen. They were going to take us to Djupvik!

That was the beginning of a close relationship that has been a delight to so many of us in America.

Family Reunion in Norway 2003

We returned to Norway in August 2003 to watch the sun set and rise again over the mouth of the Lyngen Fjord. This is a gathering of family members...cousins all!

Norwegians at Pleasant Prairie Church in Wisconsin

The Norwegian family finally came to America in 2005. We went first to Grantsburg, WI where the families of Paul Olson settled when they came to America. Pictured above at the Pleasant Prairie Church are Johan Rud, Solveig Dreyer, Wendy Zander, Solveig Korseberg, and Odd Georg. Johan is the son of Solveig Korseberbg and lives on his family farm in Eidsberg south of Oslo.
