Eilert Carlson and Ronnog Olsdatter had seven
children: Ronnog died six months after the birth of Marthe in 1861. Three years later, Eilert sold his farm to Valentine Berg and his son-in-law, Ole Mortenson, who had married daughter Anne in 1860. Eilert remarried Synnove Rasmusdatter Brok, whom we presume was his housekeeper, and they brought the six children to America, settling in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In 1866, when land opened up in Minnesota, Eilert and his children moved to Langhei Township, Pope County. Son Edward was still serving in the Wisconsin Militia. Eilert and Lars obtained original land patents for their homesteads in Section 24, and Carl obtained his in Section 13. In 1868, Eilert petitioned for the first school in Langhei Township, District 22, even before there was a Lutheran Church built. The school was erected in 1869, and the walls were crooked. Eilert died in 1870, and his son Lars buried him on the top of a hill on his homestead. Eilert left his land and possession to his children. Eilert's memorial reads (English Translation):
